We had a scare

Warning - this may be a TMI post for some.

So last night, as J is standing over me going to the bathroom, (which seems to be a common occurrence as of late) and I am sternly telling him to get out - that both myself and the baby are fine, I wipe. and there's blood. bright red blood.

It isn't "flowing" out, but it is there every time I wipe. We are scared, but decide to give it some time to see if it went away.

I wake up from a pretty non-restful sleep to go to the bathroom praying that it is no longer there and bam, out comes a clot. Such a weird sensation as I have had no cramping and it just seemed to drop out. It is dark red and it seems big. J comes running in and we are both staring into the toilet, not knowing what to make of it all.

At this point, I am still bleeding but it seems that this may have been the culprit of the majority of what came earlier.

I lay back down in bed and manage another couple hours of rest and when I finally get up, the bright red has turned brown. Which was a relief, but still there and still coming.

(Major TMI part)
I called the emergency line and managed to get in to see the doctor at 9:30. We had read that sometimes the doctor can benefit from seeing the actual clot, so we managed to get it in a baggie and bring it along. I could have cared less about it if it meant that we might get an answer as to why it happened and a confirmation that there is nothing vital inside of it.

The on call doc was a young resident. He was very kind and concerned for us, but I think we might have scared him a bit by bringing the clot. He took a quick look at it, explained to us that it looked too small to have carried anything vital with it and then asked if he could throw it away. Of course, we allowed him to do so.

He came into the office accompanied by his boss and gave us an ultra sound where we were able to see the baby clearly and the heartbeat was at 132. Everything looks fine. *SIGH of RELIEF*.
They did try to determine where the blood may have come from and saw a little sac up pretty high in the uterus, but it wasn't a concern and they think it must have just been a slow accumulation of trickles of blood over the past couple of weeks.

We liked this doctor and kind of wish that we had met with him for the past two years. He explained to us that the risk of m/c has decreased significantly since seeing the h/b and there is only about a 5% chance of that happening at this point. It was comforting.

Mom and dad were here visiting this weekend so of course, while we were out at the doc, they were sitting here worrying. Luckily, we were able to come back and tell them the good news, then enjoy a nice breakfast and a pedi with mom before they headed back home. My toes were absolutely atrocious and they are now pretty coral color and my feet are so soft. Finally.

I am still feeling sick. I finally realized while I was at the pharmacy yesterday that I could have maa.lox and that might just help. I also picked up some sea.bands and popped those on yesterday afternoon. Not sure which one it was - but something offered me a bit of relief. Last night wasn't so fun, but I am pushing through by keeping the outcome in my head.

In other news, it seems like Spring is here! I know, it will likely be gone by tomorrow but for right now - I am enjoying this mid 50's weather and sunshine. Almost enough to want to get out on the bike path, but am fighting some fatigue today from last nights lack of sleep. At least we have the door open to the porch and the kitties are loving that they can come in and out as they please. They knew that it was nice out yesterday morning, as the three of them were standing in front of the door to the porch staring at me and "telling" me to please open the door.

We went to the farmers market yesterday and I picked them up some organic cat grass. So, with the combination of the grass, sunshine and fresh air - they are in heaven.

  1. That same thing happened to me. I had bright red bleeding...the next day I passed a really large clot. After that the bleeding slowed and a few days later it stopped. Both babies are still doing fine. Try not to stress!!!
